Cinélibre: co-founder of the Swiss Coalition for Cultural Diversity
Cinélibre, the Association of Swiss Film Societies and Non Profit Cinemas, acted as one of the founders of the Swiss Coalition for Cultural Diversity which was founded at the end of September 2005. Around the world some 30 national coalitions affirm that cultural diversity is a fundamental part of civilisation and that countries and governments be entirely free to adopt the policies necessary to support the diversity of cultural expression and the viability of enterprises that produce and disseminate this expression. Consequently, cultural policy must not be subject to the constraints of international trade agreements. The UNESCO convention, adopted at the end of October, to protect and to support the cultural diversity around the world was developed with a strong participation of Switzerland.
